What is Omega3?
Omega 3 is a type of polyunsaturated fat classified as an essential fatty acid, which means that the body cannot produce it on its own and we must obtain it through diet.
Omega-3 comes in different forms, depending on the length of its chains and chemical structure.
Short-chain Omega-3 fatty acids come from plant sources , such as green leaves, nuts, and flax.
Long-chain fatty acids contain eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA are important structural components of the body's cells.
The body does not absorb both sources of Omega-3 equally. Our metabolism can only transform approximately 5% of the Omega-3 of plant origin ALA into EPA, something that we must take into account when choosing the type and dose of Omega 3 that we consume.

Diseases that Omega-3 can prevent or improve
Omega-3 plays an important role in preventing and improving various diseases with high prevalence among women.
Cardiovascular Health
Numerous scientific studies support the ability of Omega-3 to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attacks and strokes4,5. EPA and DHA have a positive effect on heart health by reducing triglyceride levels and improving blood vessel function.
Mental Health
EPA and DHA may reduce the risk of depression and anxiety by influencing the production of neurotransmitters that affect mood and emotional stability, such as dopamine or serotonin. In fact, patients with depression have been shown to have low levels of omega-3 EPA and DHA.
Eye Health
Formulas rich in EPA reduce the risk of developing dry eye syndrome, while those enriched in DHA help prevent and treat age-related macular degeneration.
Skin Health
Its ability to reduce inflammation in the body also translates into benefits for the skin by minimizing irritation and redness. Additionally, it promotes skin hydration by strengthening the skin's lipid barrier, keeping it soft and supple. This combination of effects makes it effective in preventing skin conditions such as acne and dermatitis, helping to maintain clear and luminous skin.
Pain reduction
Omega-3 has a remarkable ability to reduce pain, which is relevant in severe menstrual pain or discomfort caused by uterine fibroids. It exerts its effect by fighting inflammation in the body, which is a common cause of pain.
In the case of uterine fibroids, which are non-cancerous tumors that develop in the uterus, Omega-3, by effectively reducing inflammation, can relieve these painful symptoms.

Adjuvant treatment in cancer
Although research is ongoing and it is not considered a cure on its own, Omega-3 has been observed to possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may be beneficial and these properties may help reduce chronic inflammation, a risk factor for the development of cancer, and support the immune system in fighting cancer cells.
