Being self-confident makes you feel more empowered, secure, and comfortable with your decisions . People who are emotionally secure manage conflicts better and have no problem showing vulnerability with others , since they don't seek external approval.

But it's not easy. Dr. Cortney S. Warren of Harvard University has explained that it has been proven that people who show emotional security verbalize these 9 phrases daily. If you keep them in mind and repeat them daily, little by little you will gain self-confidence and self-assurance.

1 - NO!

Those who experience emotional security have no problem setting boundaries. They exercise their ability to say “no” naturally, according to their own moral principles, needs and desires.

Other similar phrases include: “I’m sorry, but I can’t participate because I have too many other commitments,” or “Thanks for the offer, but that’s not something I enjoy doing.”

2 - “I'll think about it before answering”

Self-confident people are not impulsive and take the time to think about their responses and express them in the right way.

Those who feel emotionally secure are measured in their reactions.

Other similar phrases include: “I don’t want to say something I might regret later” or “I don’t have an answer right now. Can we pick up this conversation again tomorrow?”

3 - “I don’t feel comfortable”

Self-confident people “always communicate their needs in a respectful way. This means that they express how they feel when someone treats them badly,” explained Dr. Warren.

If they notice that another person is crossing the line of respect, they will let them know. Other similar phrases include: “Don’t treat me like that, it’s not healthy for me,” or “When you talk like that, I feel uncomfortable and it bothers me.”
