Tips para mejorar la memoria y la concentración

Concentrating and memorizing are two fundamental parts of the study and work process, as they facilitate the assimilation of content and its memory over time. However, we live in a fast-paced world full of stimuli that make it difficult for us to pay attention.

We explain all the techniques and routines to improve concentration and memory and obtain better academic and work results.

Techniques to improve concentration and memory

Getting into a good habit of concentration and study that allows us to concentrate and retain the entire syllabus or the presentation of a project is not easy ... all people are subjected to a large amount of stimuli. In addition, many people have responsibilities beyond the academic and work environment (family, children, partner, financial problems...) that make concentration difficult, causing frustration when preparing for an exam or memorizing a project.

The Internet and social media are one of the biggest sources of distractions and for many people having their mobile phone next to them means checking it every five minutes, even without having notifications activated… For this reason, when it comes to improving our ability to concentrate, the first thing to do is to put aside anything that can distract us. In addition, we can use various techniques focused on focusing our attention and concentrating on the present moment.

Organize your workspace and your time well

It has been proven that in order to concentrate effectively and productively, it is necessary to have a large, quiet and tidy space . This way, we can have all the necessary materials and resources at hand to feel comfortable and avoid any distractions.

If you want to study or work without pressure, it is important to plan what you need to memorize and the hours you dedicate to each topic. One of the tools that can help us is the schedules , through this graphic representation, we can include all the points to be discussed and divide them according to the time we have available and the level of involvement that the subject requires. Don't forget to be as realistic as possible when distributing the days and hours. You must keep in mind that the objective of this exercise is for our concentration to be 100% in the time we are working on the topic.

On the other hand, another technique you can use to improve productivity and maintain concentration is the Pomodoro technique. This consists of dividing work time into 25-minute intervals, known as “pomodoros,” followed by short 5-minute breaks.

Control ambient noise

Another factor that can negatively affect our concentration is ambient noise, so we recommend closing windows, turning off televisions and avoiding any type of distraction that may affect your concentration.

In addition, it is good for people who are close to you to know your study routine or know when you need silence to be fully concentrated and they will be able to adapt to you to make as little noise as possible and respect your concentration.

If your workspace is noisy, try moving to a more private room where you have space and time to concentrate.

Alternate contents

It is very important to alternate topics according to their level of difficulty and preference. This way, you will be able to activate your attention and maintain it more easily. For example, you can start with the most difficult topic (spreadsheets, topics that require your full attention), so that when your attention wanes, you can activate it again with an easier topic.
