Wrinkles are a natural part of aging and are more prominent on sun-exposed skin.

While genetics are the main determinants of skin structure and texture, sun exposure is one of the main causes of wrinkles, especially in people with fair skin. Pollutants and smoking also contribute.

If wrinkles bother you, you have more options than ever to help smooth them out or make them less noticeable. Medications, exfoliation techniques, fillers, and surgery are among the most effective wrinkle treatments.

The appearance of wrinkles in young people.

It is a fact that the first signs of aging on the skin of the face may appear as early as adolescence, after the age of 15.

But it is from the age of 25 that we can see the first expression lines (usually caused by gestures) more clearly in a mirror. By the age of 30 they will already be completely evident.

But how is it possible for a young person to show these signs?

Yes, it is possible to have wrinkles at an early age. There are two main causes: genetics and environmental factors to which the skin has been exposed.

Where do expression wrinkles usually appear?

There are areas where wrinkles become more prominent:

Forehead

Like frown lines, these expression lines are closely related to gesticulation. For this reason, very expressive people (who constantly frown or raise their eyebrows) are more likely to accentuate these types of marks.

Mouth

Wrinkles in the nasolabial fold can visibly worsen the appearance of the skin, appearing due to certain facial gestures (smoking, whistling, kissing or talking) or due to certain dental problems.

Eyes

Fine horizontal lines - called "crow's feet" - are located on either side of the eyes and are intensified when the muscles of the face move when we laugh, cry, etc.

Frown

Frown lines start out almost imperceptible and over time can become deep creases that give the face a tired, angry or aged appearance.

Chin

The chin is one of the areas of the face that is most affected by the loss of firmness of the skin and the main reason is the excessive contraction of the mentalis muscle that causes the upper lip to rise. This causes the corners of the mouth to drop considerably, giving the impression that the person appears to have a sad or dull expression.

How can I minimize them?

The appearance of wrinkles (where they develop, their depth and length, etc.) can be minimized with proper care, and even if you've just found your first wrinkle, there are many ways to keep your skin's aging at bay.

1. Apply SPF protection daily

Make a broad spectrum moisturizer and body sunscreen part of your daily facial care routine because free radicals are the number one cause of sun damage that leads to premature fine lines, sagging, dark spots and the development of even more wrinkles.

2. Take extra precautions when driving

Most people overlook the sun damage that occurs while driving and UVA rays can easily pass through vehicle windows (tinted or not), so if you commute or spend more than a few minutes in the car (driving or not), you better make sure you have SPF protection.

Make sure to focus on your face, neck, décolleté and hands. This will help prevent the first wrinkles.

3. Sleep on your back

Sleeping on the same side all the time can cause those seemingly harmless bed sheets to turn into permanent lines and wrinkles. We spend at least a third of our lives sleeping, which means we're etching those lines into our face.

4. Always carry glasses with eye protection at hand

You should invest in a pair of polarized sunglasses, because repeated squinting can aggravate existing lines, or encourage new ones to form, around the eyes, between the eyebrows, and on the forehead.

5. Drink more water

Hydrating from the inside out is crucial to the overall health and appearance of your skin because dehydrated skin cells give skin a sallow, sometimes ashy appearance, which exaggerates the look of any visible signs of aging.

However, when cells are well hydrated, skin looks (and feels) softer and more supple.

6. Moisturize your skin

Look for moisturizers and night creams that help provide essential hydration and lock moisture into the skin, which is essential to delay the appearance of the first wrinkles.

Moisturizers and/or emollients can help soften fine lines and wrinkles by plumping the skin for a more youthful appearance.

7. Use anti-aging products in your skincare routine

Serums and creams formulated with powerful anti-aging ingredients can help slow down the signs of aging by defending the skin from environmental damage and free radicals, while reducing the appearance of all visible signs of aging.

8. Avoid tobacco and alcohol.

Smoking can accelerate the normal aging process of the skin, contributing to the appearance of wrinkles and other changes in the appearance of the face.

These changes include crow's feet, pronounced lines between the eyebrows, an uneven complexion, a grayish tone to fair skin, deep creases and puffiness under the eyes, wrinkles around the mouth, and thinner lips.

The more cigarettes you smoke and the longer you smoke, the more likely you are to develop wrinkles and other age-related changes on your face.

Another factor that causes skin damage is alcohol consumption, which can reduce levels of vitamins, such as vitamin A, that are crucial for skin health.

A lack of vitamin A can reduce collagen levels, which can lead to premature wrinkles as well as a loss of elasticity and fullness in the face.

Alcohol can also cause dehydration, which can contribute to wrinkles on the face as well as excessively dry skin. Other effects:

  • Yellowish skin

  • Spider veins

  • Increased risk of skin infections

  • Worsening of existing conditions

  • Rashes

  • Changes in skin color.

9. Exfoliate your skin frequently

Having a proper skincare routine is essential. Nowadays we are exposed to a large number of pollutants that worsen our skin. Therefore, by exfoliating you ensure that you properly clean the surface layer of the dermis and eliminate all impurities. However, anything in excess is bad, so we recommend exfoliating your face only 1 or 2 times a week to avoid irritation or redness.

Other solutions

Rejuvenation and wrinkle correction with botulinum toxin type A

By means of small injections in the desired area, you can block the nerve signals that cause the contraction. In this way, the facial muscle relaxes and the appearance of the wrinkle is considerably reduced. However, the results are not permanent, so if you want to forget about wrinkles forever, you will have to repeat the treatment periodically.

Hyaluronic Acid

It is a component that is naturally present in our tissues. However, as time goes by, the proportion of this substance decreases and leads to the appearance of wrinkles. Therefore, carrying out a treatment with this substance helps to fill the furrows in the skin and gives your complexion a dazzling appearance.

Facial radiofrequency

In a non-invasive way, this procedure stimulates natural collagen production and increases luminosity. Side effects are extremely rare and the results are visible from the first session.

Control your skin….. without obsessing

Once you start an anti-aging regimen, you should see improvements in your skin tone and texture. Be consistent in following the above points and you will see that within a few weeks, your skin is brighter and looks healthier.

However, there is no magic solution. You cannot completely stop the skin aging process… it is best not to focus on every wrinkle and definitely avoid examining your face in poor lighting, which can make minor lines appear much larger.

If you have a healthy mindset and follow a consistent skincare routine, eat well, get enough rest, stay toxin-free, and protect yourself with SPF, you are doing all the right things to look radiant.
